5 tips for using Instagram for small businesses

Instagram is a social media platform that lets you capture pictures and videos and share them with your followers and to the wider public. Today you can link your Facebook and Twitter accounts so that all your Instagram posts are shared on these other social channels as well. Social media, if used properly by small businesses, can be a serious tool for increasing brand awareness. Instagram is being used successfully by many small, successful and growing businesses, and could benefit yours just a much. So then, how can you best use Instagram for your small business?

1.     Find your ideal client, follow, and interact with them

This may seem like a tedious task, but it's actually pretty simple. The first place to look is on your competitor's accounts. Since they are following a business similar to yours, they will likely be interested in what your business is offering. Take the time to know them individually rather than fill their comments section with spam messages.

2.     Use hashtags wisely

Many Instagram users use hashtags to find what they are searching for faster. You can easily search for the most popular hashtags relating to your business and use them in your posts to increase traffic on your page. Remember to use a reasonable number of relevant hashtags on each post.

3.     Build a community

Try to show your customers that you are connecting with them on a personal level. For instance, you can repost screenshots of their feedback and photos or videos of them using your product on your feed. You can also mention them on these posts and thank them for their support.

4.     Keep track of customer feedback

Since this is a marketing and branding platform, you should always check your customer feedback in your comments and in their posts as well. In addition to tracking them, you should respond to both positive and negative comments. This will help you improve your business's weaknesses and continue to project your strengths.

5.     Offer them gifts and promos

Existing and even prospective clients love to be gifted or offered discounts and promotional items. When you are introducing a new product or even have a product that is best-selling, hold a promotional sale or giveaway sale every once in a while. This will keep your clients motivated and increase the chances of retaining them into the future.
